Simonetta Alessandri & Rick Nodine

Rick Nodine and Simonetta Alessandri

Feldenkrais, Spherical  Orientation and Contact Improvisation with Music from Jamie  McCarthy

In Simonetta’s work the Feldenkrais  Method will be a base from which we move into dance. We will use simple,  exploratory movements (ATM Class) to free ourselves from unhelpful patterns  and discover new functional alternatives. A particular focus will be on how  we make the transition from these Somatic explorations to the expansion of  our movement into space, touch, shared weight, and the complex demands of a  dynamic Contact dance.

Rick’s work (Spherical Orientation) drawls on the  structure of the Contemporary Dance class using choreographed movement to  illustrate particular principles. We will move across the space practising  phrases which support the skills of the Contact Improviser. Forward, side  and backward rolls, dives, knee slides, handstands, off axis patterns and  floor surfing. We will take these skills and patterns into contact dances,  exploring the subtlety required to achieve the more acrobatic aspects of  contact improvisation.

Each  afternoon will give time for Jamming with Jamies amazing live music,  practicing, processing, watching and talking about our work  together.

There  will still be lots of time to go to the near by beach.

Feldenkrais, Spherical Orientation and Contact Improvisation

In Simonetta’s work the Feldenkrais Method will be a base from which we move into dance.  We will use simple, exploratory movements (ATM Class) to free ourselves from unhelpful patterns and discover new functional alternatives.  A particular focus will be on how we make the transition from these Somatic explorations to the expansion of our movement into space, touch, shared weight, and the complex demands of a dynamic Contact dance.

Rick’s work (Spherical Orientation) drawls on the structure of the Contemporary Dance class using choreographed movement to illustrate particular principles.  Starting with simple floor patterns which facilitate efficient movement in relation to the floor, we then move across the space practising phrases which support the skills of the Contact Improviser. Forward, side and backward rolls, dives, knee slides, handstands, off axis patterns and floor surfing.  We will take these skills and patterns into contact dances, exploring the subtlety required to achieve the more acrobatic aspects of contact improvisation.

Each day will give time for Jamming, practising, processing, watching and talking about our work together.
