Simonetta Alessandri & Rick Nodine

Feldenkrais-Contact improvisation-Composition

5th-9th September 2007

In the Feldenkrais Method we use simple, exploratory movements to free
ourselves from unhelpful patterns and discover new functional
alternatives. Establishing a clear connection to our own bodies through
Feldenkrais allows us to enter into contact with others with confidence,
awareness and precision.  Tecnical exercises to  refine our CI skills will involve
subtle weight  exchange, moving from center, spherical orientation, flying  and
upside-down dancing.
We will develop our contact dances by exploring how to stay committed to
the duet while maintaining the independence of our own dancing. By
working on our awareness of the center of the duet (the point of
contact) and the edges of the duet (the parts of us furthest from the
point of contact) we can bring a sense of composition to our dances.
Finally working in trios and larger groups we will practice scores
which highlight our decision-making process in improvisation and reveal
how we create order and disorder in our compositions.
Ultimately we will be dancing together with sensitivity, risk, humor and
a vigorous physicality.
